Changing of the guard

Changing of the guard

“Ladies and gentlemen, have your scorecards and pencils ready for a Chicago Cubs pitching change.”

This lineup change, if you will, isn’t on the mound at Wrigley Field, but here in the pages of Flexible Packaging. After 27 years in the media industry and nearly two years with our magazine, Lisa Pierce has left to follow a new opportunity.

But as Native Alaskan author Mary Tallmountain once wrote, “We’ll see you some place else…there is no word for goodbye.” Indeed, this much is true of Lisa’s new challenge, where she’ll be writing about and analyzing packaging trends with a market research firm.

With Lisa’s departure, I’m stepping up to the Editor-in-Chief position and stepping into a full-time home office. This increase in responsibility and work-from-home privilege signal big changes in my life—changes that certainly get the blood flowing.

But as popular cliché reminds us, the more things change, the more they stay the same. As I settle into my new role, the eagerness to learn that has been driving me since I first joined the magazine hasn’t wavered. In the coming months and years, I look forward to seeing the inside of converters’ and printers’ operations, visiting more booths at upcoming trade shows, and above all, filling Flexible Packaging’s pages, website and eNewsletter with relevant and timely information on the trends and technologies directing this vibrant industry into the future.

As you delve into the pages of this issue, my first as Editor-in-Chief, you’ll find that I’m not alone in being excited about the trends and advancements that are paving the road ahead. As part of Flexible Packaging’s 10th Anniversary, we’re featuring key leaders from all corners of the industry in a special feature titled, “A peak into perpetuity.” Whether advancing sustainability, maximizing efficiencies or simply improving the image of flexible packages everywhere, one common theme becomes clear: change is inevitable. (Except, of course, from a vending machine.)
