Consumption by the majority of the population and increasing numbers of home-preparation suggest the coffee market is brimming with packaging opportunities.

According to the National Coffee Association (NCA), 54% of the total adult population consume coffee beverages on a daily basis. Moreover, the industry association reports that at-home coffee preparation is up five percentage points over recent years, with 83% of past-day coffee drinkers reporting they made coffee at home the previous day.

NCA research also indicates that, of all the population ages 18 and over, those aged 60 years or more drink coffee more often than not. In fact, 69% of those in the 60-and-up category reported drinking coffee the day previous, compared to 60% of 40-59 year olds, 44% of 25-39 year olds and 29% of 18-24 year olds.

In a separate report, coffee-statistics.com points out that the U.S. reigns as the leading consumer of coffee worldwide, downing some 400 million cups of joe every day, or 146 billion cups annually. And while NCA's data clearly illustrates the popularity of at-home brewing, coffee-statistics.com indicates that cafe bars average sales of about 230 cups of coffee every day.
