The Coefficient of Friction (COF) tester helps packaging manufacturers and their customers improve production processes by assessing “slip” properties of a film, paper or foil. Able to test to BS EN ISO 8295:2004 and ASTM D1894:2001 standards, the system uses a horizontal test table and a sled of known mass resting atop two pieces of sample material. When the test begins, the sled moves across the surface of the top sample at a constant speed while the test system records the force required to both begin and maintain movement. The MultiTest-d system offers basic data via an LCD screen; this can be further enhanced with Emperor Lite, Mecmesin’s new data analysis software. MultiTest-i, a computer-controlled version of the system, provides users with total programming control and additional graphs and calculations.
