Seaquist Closures is one of the first companies in the industry to initiate a “Sustainability Team” dedicated to increasing its focus on environmental sustainability issues, according to Anne Stecker, food market manager.

The team is the result of a larger effort by Seaquist Closures’ parent company Aptar Group, to create a corporate-wide “Green Initiative.” The company has created six such teams across its divisions in the United States.

Mary Sieger is a Senior Commodity Specialist at Seaquist Closures playing a lead role in the new environmental sustainability initiative.

“Seaquist has long-established programs within our plant to reduce packaging, recycle industrial waste and increase the energy efficiency of our operations,” said Mary Sieger, Senior Commodity Specialist. “It is our goal to make environmental responsibility a priority at all levels of the Seaquist organization from choices made by individual employees at work and in their homes to overall corporate policy and procedures.”

The Sustainability Team will focus on these key points:

Part Design Changes: Part weight reduction for new closure designs; reduction in resin usage

Packaging Reduction: Reusable totes for finished goods means more product per truckload; reduced thickness of carton polybag liners

Recycling: Use of reconditioned pallets; recycle plastic, corrugate, paper, metal and oils; recycle printer/copy toner cartridges

Energy Consumption: New energy-efficient equipment installed; new efficiency methods to reduce press energy consumption; new energy-efficient lighting
