Converting, packaging and consumer products manufacturers from around the globe work with CMD to develop converting systems for share-building product ideas and profitable process efficiencies. Rapid advancements in film structures, closure systems and flexible packaging necessitate a clear understanding of the convertibility of each new material.
Customers rely on the confidential development of proprietary technology projects, and the CMD campus in Appleton, Wisconsin, features a separate, 35,000 sq. ft. demonstration and testing facility and a dedicated, 43,000 sq. ft. technology center, which includes private, secure manufacturing bays and conferencing areas, controls lab, sealing lab, pilot/lab line demo room, and state-of-the-art security system.
Bag and Pouch Converting Equipment
CMD pioneered high speeds with patented rotary bag equipment and overlap bag winders and introduced patented technology for drawtape, which is now the consumer preference in trash bags and liners. Additionally, CMD offers a complete line of complementary converting equipment for the blown-film industry: bottom seal machines, post gusseters/slit sealers, bag folders, automation equipment for folded or rolled bags, unwinds, bag and sheeting winders, and web-handling accessories. CMD also offers high speed, high-performance PDI pouchmaking equipment, designed for the unique needs of specific market segments including medical pouches; stand-up and side-gusseted pouches; protective packaging; security bags and envelopes; and bottom seal/heavy wall.
This year, PDI introduced Intelligent Sealing Technology on the Medical Combination Pouch System. This proprietary process-management tool combines mechanical and electronic controls innovation to carefully maintain and document the three critical sealing parameters of time, temperature and pressure. This new technology has addressed the need of the packaging converter by maintaining process consistency and building confidence in product quality and integrity through data acquisition and product/process traceability.
The Value of CMD Equipment
All CMD equipment begins with well-researched technological design and is supported by dedicated, experienced technical service representatives and parts professionals. Retrofit kits, upgrades and machine refurbishment are also offered. Operator manuals feature full-color photos and instruction diagrams and are offered in print or electronic versions. Task-based operator training is offered either at the CMD campus or at the customer’s facility.
After-sale support and customer feedback are critical ingredients to the CMD philosophy, as is expressed in the company mission statement: Listen to the needs of our customers; Learn new ways to solve problems; Lead the industry in new technology.
