Nadolske

An Insider's View of CPP

Q&A with Leo Nadolske, president, CPP Expo.

Q:  What role does flexible packaging (including label converting) play in this market and the event?

A: Flexible packaging plays a major role in the market as it is the second largest segment of the packaging industry.  The substrates of paper, films and foils prove to be versatile efficient and cost effective.

Q: How has the economy impacted the market?

A: It has had an affect, but food, pharmaceuticals and personal care are hanging in there.  It’s an interesting environment.  There are companies that are just surviving and others that are cash rich, due to the uncertainty coming from Washington.

Q: To what degree has sustainability affected these markets?

A: The issue of sustainability had a huge influence in the marketplace.  There seems to be a big push by manufacturers for Post-Consumer Recycling (PCR) and the vendors are acting accordingly and creating many green options. It’s cool to be eco-friendly.

Q: What are the advantages of co-locating with Pack Expo?

A: CPP serves the Tag & Label, Flexible Packaging, Folding Carton and Corrugated industries.  Co-locating with PACK EXPO International helps create a full supply chain event, offering converters and package printers the opportunity to meet with suppliers and customers, see the latest in technologies and equipment all under one roof over four days.

Q: What can be said about the conference? What new sessions have been added this year?

A: The four conference sessions this year are being produced by the Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) and will offer in-depth looks at the latest technologies available in the field. Attendees will definitely want to go to the “Conferences” section of our www.cppexpo.com website for details and registration.

Q: What are your expectations for this year’s show, and how does it compare to years past?

A: CPP Expo is expecting 6,000 attendees from the 45,000 expected at the overall events. Currently, preregistration is ahead of where we were two years ago.  We are expecting a strong attendance.

Q: Anything else you want to point out about CPP or the industry?

A: CPP EXPO will provide a perfect environment for attendees to find their solutions in a true workflow setting.

Conference Schedule

Improving Color Consistency through Anilox Management
Monday, November 1
9:00 am - 9:50 am

Color management can be maximized with the proper management of your anilox inventory. This is especially important with increased demands for tighter color tolerances and the faster production speeds of today's presses.
Speaker: Alexander James, Harper Graphic Solutions

The Flexo Dream
Monday, November 1
10:00 am - 10:50 am

How Direct Engraving has change over the year and what advantages it has today in Flexography. To do everything that CTP can do and control the 3rd dimension of Height…is truly a Dream For Flexo.
Speaker: Paul Zeinert, Anderson & Vreeland

Catching the Consumer First
Tuesday, November 2
9:00 am - 9:50 am

FIRST 4.0 (Flexographic Image Reproduction Specifications & Tolerances) is a set of specifications, not standards. When followed, these specifications facilitate producing a predictable, consistent result. FIRST seeks to understand customers’ graphic requirements for reproduction and translate those aesthetic requirements into specifications for each phase of the flexographic printing process including: customers, designers, prepress providers, raw material & equipment suppliers, and printers.
Speaker: Joe Tuccitti, FTA

Conquering the Resolution Revolution
Tuesday, November 2
10:00 am - 10:50 am

HD Flexo is a combination of hardware and software innovations. The imaging hardware is enhanced with a much finer writing beam, reaching a fully addressable resolution of 4000dpi without lowering CTP throughput. Using more pixels in the screening dots (especially in the highlight area where the dots are smaller) means they are formed more accurately and with a strong, round shape. This presentation will cover the ins and outs of HD Flexo while providing the attendees with a look at flexo print quality like they have never seen before!
Speaker: Larry Moore, EskoArtwork
