As part of a $30 million expansion, Winpak Portion Packaging, Inc. will be building a new manufacturing facility in Sauk Village, Illinois. The new facility will be about 2.5 miles from the current South Chicago Heights, Illinois plant.

The new facility will be built on 28 acres and will initially have 267,000 square feet of manufacturing, warehouse, printing and office space. To support future anticipated growth, the facility will be expandable to 615,000 square feet. It will also serve as the primary warehouse and distribution center complete with rail service. Construction is scheduled to start in April, with occupancy in the last quarter of 2011. The plant is scheduled to become operational in the first quarter of 2012.

“This new facility will allow Winpak to be able to support the continued growth of our single serve and portion controlled thermoformed container products,” James McMacken, president of Winpak Portion Packaging, Inc. says. “Winpak is committed to continued capital investments to grow the company and to stay ahead of the technology curve.”

Winpak Portion Packaging currently operates manufacturing facilities in South Chicago Heights, Illinois and Toronto, Ontario. The new facility will be the company’s third thermoforming manufacturing plant and will include extrusion and thermoforming equipment for producing monolithic and multi-layer polypropylene, polystyrene and polyethylene thermoformed containers. It will provide added capacity for the company’s multi-layer barrier and retort containers.
