The India-based UFLEX Group, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of Flexible Packaging materials, have entered a cutting edge technology area with the commissioning of an ALOX coater for Packaging films at their Egypt plant. With this, UFLEX joins a very select handful of manufacturers who are capable of producing ALOX coated films.

A new 12,000 MT/year state-of-the-art Cast Polypropylene (CPP) Film line has also been started up at this facility.

The site already houses an 8.7 meter wide, 500 meters/minute state-of-the art Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) Film plant, one of the world’s largest packaging film lines that can turn out 36,000 MT/year, and a plasma enhanced high-barrier metalliser that were commissioned in 2010.

Under installation at this location are also an 8.7 meter wide, 500 meters/minute Biaxially Oriented Polyester (BOPET) Film line and another plasma enhanced metalliser that will be fully operational within 2011. This will further consolidate Uflex’s position as the world’s largest producer of BOPET Films for Packaging applications.

The ALOX coater is the Group’s first such installation. It applies a thin and highly transparent coating of aluminium oxide on packaging films that gives the materials extremely high moisture and gas barrier properties that rival those of aluminium foils and metallised films. ALOX coated films is that they are microwavable, this makes them ideally suited for the packaging of processed foods that can be microwave heated or cooked in the pack itself before consumption.
