The Flexible Packaging Association recently participated in the ASTM International’s Committee Week in Phoenix, Arizona. Ram Singhal, Vice President, Technology and Environmental Strategy provided a presentation titled “Flexible Packaging: Too Valuable a Resource to Waste.” During his address, Ram noted that flexible packaging offers many sustainability advantages and is a valuable energy resource even at the end of its useful life.
He explained that FPA continues to explore and evaluate resource recovery options for mechanically hard to recycle packages. FPA has conducted successful pilots with post industrial and post consumer materials, yielding 70-80% transportation grade fuel and industrial wax through pyrolysis processes. During his presentation, Ram also discussed packaging expectations of consumer goods companies.
