TAPPI PLACE offers its members many
opportunities to cultivate their skills through its events and outreach
programs.
With projected growth of greater than 11 percent per year, pouches are one of the largest growth sectors in flexible packaging. The stand-up pouch industry is projected to reach $4.0 billion in sales by 2016.
One walk through the grocery store and it’s very apparent that more and more consumers are demanding convenience, and packaging manufacturers have stepped up. Not too long ago, zippers and spouts were only seen in differentiated products. Today, you see these convenience features, plus many others, as a mainstay on the store shelf. In addition to features, sustainability is also a key driver. Material conversion from rigid containers into lighter weight pouches helps to minimize material usage and is favorable to transportation costs.
TAPPI PLACE is a great place to learn more about stand-up pouches and interact with all levels of the value chain in pouches.
As a member of TAPPI PLACE, you have access to our online Member Directory. Networking with other members online or in person at TAPPI PLACE events is a great way to innovate, develop ideas and solve problems. In addition to the many materials and machinery manufacturers, member companies who attended the TAPPI PLACE 2012 Conference and who convert for stand-up pouches include: Amcor Flexibles, American Packaging, Bryce Corporation, Cadillac Products, CEI, Curwood, Glenroy, Graphic Packaging, Hood Packaging, Nordenia, Oliver-Tolas, Printpack, Prolamina, Rollprint, Scholle, and Sonoco.

Do you know about TAPPI PLACE Student Outreach and Young Professionals? TAPPI PLACE is busy connecting with students and young professionals as they explore and enter the field of packaging. Under Rob Hammond’s (Mica Corporation) leadership of the Student Outreach team, we are attempting to form and expand student chapters at packaging school university campuses. We are also actively raising funds in order to award scholarships and are scheduling educational events, as well. Further, once a graduate enters the workforce, we continue to engage them via our Young Professionals group. Jesse Ward, NOVA Chemicals, is leading this team of like-minded individuals in the packaging field who are looking to expand their education and networking. What's Upcoming for TAPPI PLACE

Books and Manuals
The Film Extrusion Manual and Extrusion Coating Manual, two of the TAPPI PLACE division manuals are in the process of being updated and re-edited, and should be available in the near future. Both of these manuals provide excellent resources guides on materials, processing and troubleshooting in the area of films, laminations, converting and stand-up pouches. In addition, we are preparing a soon to be published Barrier Handbook for flexible packaging.
